I Give Back
As a creative, I pride myself on giving back to others. I challenge my community to be catalysts for change founding organizations such as Untamed Tongues Poetry Collective (2014) and co-founding FLYGirls Youth Development Program Through the Arts (2017).
With Untamed Tongues, I have collaborated and performed with poets from all over the country. In 2015, I presented at the Statewide Collaborative Diversity Conference on the pedagogy of spoken word and social activism. Untamed Tongues provides community service through writing workshops, meal packing, study sessions and socially critical performances.
With FLYGirls, I have taught spoken word poetry to middle school students at the Ozarks Youth Writing Conference and held a girl’s assembly presentation for high school girls on leadership and self-love at Central High in Springfield, MO.
As Miss Black and Gold 2014 from the Sigma Theta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., I also facilitated “The Outstanding Woman: Women’s Empowerment Workshop” designed for women of color on campus to engage in discussions on professional, social, civil, and civic issues such as building leadership, elevating self-confidence, combating sexism and racism in the workplace and promoting community activism.
I have been featured in the Springfield News-Leader and honored through the Missouri State Public Affairs Department for my vision and activism in bettering the community.
